These books don’t have any rhyme or reason to being on the list as they aren’t eaqual. I either can read them over & over again & be entertained (Jones) or it drew me in from the very beginning (Memoirs), or once I had broke through the initial chapter, I really identified with the characters & the themes (fountainhead)
Life of Pi… Yann Martel
Will admit parts of the book dragged & I had to skim but it was an original piece with an interesting ending (a kind of Usual Suspects twist). However, it was a little played out
The Fountainhead… ayn rand
Spent forever trying to get past the initial chapter. Hated it.. hated it.. hated it.. Didn’t know why it was so revered but once I persevered, I really loved the book and couldn’t put it down. Ironically the last 2 pages are missing from my copy & I have never finished it
Grapes of Wrath (John Steinbeck)
Read this in Grade 12. Thought it would suck & turned out to be a great read. Would love to read it again to see if my perspective has changed
All Families are Psychotic (Douglas Copeland)
Made me think of my own dysfunctional family. Is a nice easy read. Ending goes a little left field mind you but like the North Van refs as my dad’s business partner had owned the hotel quoted.
Brigit Jones’ Diary
I can read this book over and over again. It’s like watching a favourite movie. The character is someone I could see being friends with.
The Alchemist (Paulo Coelho)
Memoirs of a Geisha (Arthur Golden)
