Is it Me???

So last week was Halloween & I went to a house party as I mentioned in a previous post. Although I was informed it didn’t make sense….. Not my fault, I hardly write anymore so my thoughts are incoherent.

ANYWAYS….. I went to a halloween party last week and like all good house parties, once the music gets turned up (usually after a few tequila shots), the dancing starts and as usual it’s me & maybe a couple of other girls because this is what we do. You put on cheesy dance music & I will start to perform. It’s like it’s my right as though I live my life as a music video. In fact, I will spend the rest of the day rolling all over my couch… but I digress.

Still high off my Madonna concert attendance (Yea I went!!!!!!), I squeal with pride to the girl I’m dancing with that I went to the Madonna concert the previous night. I figured she either went herself or knew someone who did as the only men there were gay or Bruce’s friend, The mexican.

However, she stopped for a second & looked at me.

So I ask her “what?” (yes, this is a real play by play of events, bare with me).

She then kind of confesses that she doesn’t really like Madonna……

At this point my head exploded but right before I could put it all back together she further goes on to tell me

…. I like Britney Spears.”

OH NO YOU DIDN’T!!!!!

How is this possible? Who says this out loud? What do you mean you don’t like Madonna? Who doesn’t like Madonna? Well, obviously this girl but why? Are you touched in the head? This is the concert I had been waiting for since I was 10 years old. Ever since I first heard Material & danced about thinking she was just so glamorous (I was 10 & had not been privy to seeing Gentlemen Prefer blondes with Marilyn Monroe & therefore didn’t know that video was a direct rip off from a dance sequence). NOT THE POINT.. madonna is… MADONNA! No one dislikes her with the exception of Guy Ritchie but that’s not here nor there.

And then I realized it. The one undeniable fact ……… I’m old.

I was talking to a girl who was 24. Of course she didn’t see, understand or appreciate the allure of Madge (still crap but ok). It made me feel like all of the sudden I had admitted to attending a Cher concert and needed to apply some eye cream.

When I was 10, she was…… I’m wondering if she was born. no, she was… It’s all good.

Unlike rock music, which for some reason immortalizes the singers (think Led Zepplin), pop music dates you & as soon as you’re cool, you’re out again. Madonna is one of the very few that has managed to keep herself contemporary and in fact, in my opinion, has managed to revitalize herself in recent years.

Next thing I’m going to be told is that she has no idea why you wouldn’t put Baby in a corner.

Update: I was looking for a picture of me lip syncing to Material Girl at a contest in our local mall. Sadly, I didn’t win but the humiliation of having done that will stay with me forever…..
